Relaunch: Social Homes for Manchester becomes Greater!

As of October 2026, Social Homes for Manchester (SH4M) has become Social Homes for Greater Manchester (SH4GM).
It might take a while to filter through to all branding, as it will be some time before there is work in other boroughs at the scale of the projects ongoing in Manchester.
Many of the active organisations in the coalition already serve or represent GM-wide communities, for example GM Tenants Union, GM Law Centre, Shelter GM, Greater Together Manchester / GM Homelessness Action Network, GM Community Led Homes, GM Immigration Aid Unit, GM Coalition of Disabled People.
The Steering Group considers expansion at our Strategy Days at Mustard Tree in September 2026
A lot of the political context around the planning and delivery of social housing is national and regional in scope, and working across GM we can reach decision makers at both levels.
The SH4GM Policy and Accountability Panel is a working group set up to share the ideas, learning and recommendations of the Manchester Social Housing Commission with GM housing leaders and providers in GM, as well as to monitor progress and join up with them and the region’s MPs to advocate for national reforms and investments.
Meanwhile new partners, such as Social Homes for Trafford (SHIFT) and Middleton Co-operating, are keen to participate in and gain strength from the coalition as they mobilise and advocate for change in their own boroughs.
Our new, overarching aim is “To build a collaborative movement for housing justice in Greater Manchester, to significantly increase the amount of ecologically sustainable social rent housing being created and delivered”.
If this is your aim too, and you are based somewhere in Greater Manchester, why not join us?
